Kelly Services launches 2008 virtual online jobs expo

26 March 2008

Job seekers will be able to access and apply for thousands of jobs at an online, virtual expo when the Kelly Job Expo begins this week.

Leading recruitment firm, Kelly Services, has announced the 2008 dates for its unique, online job expo, which transforms the traditional jobs fair into a convenient, multimedia experience for job seekers.

From 28 March - 7 April, job seekers will be able to log onto the expo, seek information, search for jobs and submit interest in their chosen industry or specific jobs.

When visitors enter the virtual exhibition hall they can choose an industry booth and search jobs Australia-wide or select a specific location.  If they can’t find a job that suits their skills or career aspirations, they can define their ideal job and employer of choice.

Visitors can also go to the corporate sponsor gallery and search for jobs with some of Australia’s ‘great places to work’.

Online recruitment is accelerating, with a recent Kelly Services survey revealing that, in Australia, 54% of people found their most recent job online - the highest of all 33 countries surveyed.

In this environment, employers need to use innovative recruitment solutions to find the best person for the job.

James Bowmer, Country Manager of Kelly Services Australia, said “The online expo explores new ways to attract candidates by combining both traditional methods of expos and fairs with new approaches including job boards and online searches.”

“Many people can’t attend traditional job expos, so we are giving them the opportunity to gain information and apply for jobs in their own time and in the comfort of their home. “

The expo also aims to improve the way candidates market themselves to prospective employers. The Kelly survey found that more than a quarter of Australians have concerns about their performance during face-to-face job interviews and one in three have doubts that their CV presents them in the best possible way.

As a result, this year’s expo includes a Career Centre, where job-seekers can find tips and tools for career development including writing and interview pointers.

Mr Bowmer said the online expo was a popular event for job seekers when it ran for the first time last year, attracting more than 22,000 unique visitors.

“There is a high demand for innovative and convenient ways for job seekers to enhance their career. This was evident from the number of visitors to the site last year.”

The Kelly Job Expo will feature temporary, contract and full-time opportunities in the fields of accounting & finance, IT, science, engineering, industrial, call centre and professional/office.

All Kelly Job Expo visitors that apply for a job will have the chance to win one of 11 prizes sponsored by Sony Blu-ray with a total value of $16,000.
